Delicious Evening Brings in More than $75,000 for Girl Scouts
Glitz, glamour, and Girl Scout Cookies come together for the Girl Scouts
of Kansas Heartland’s fourth annual Cocktails & Cookies, a “fun-raising” gala to benefit Girl Scouts across 80 Kansas counties. This “adults-only” evening of decadent desserts, delicious heavy hors d’oeuvres, and exciting auction items took place on Friday, February 22 at the Wichita Scottish Rite Center. Each year, carefully chosen local chefs are asked to prepare unique desserts using at least one special ingredient– Girl Scout Cookies!
Time and time again, these masterful artists create unbelievable combinations that leave guests’ mouths watering. Guests had the delicious task of choosing a People’s Choice winner by popular vote, and a panel of celebrity judges (Denise Neil, Wichita Eagle; Guy Bower, Good Life Guy; Tanya Tandoc, Tanya’s Soup Kitchen) chose the Judges’ Choice winner. Chocolate, peanut butter, and cheesecake came together to create a doubly winning combination for the Butler Community College Hospitality Management Program. The Grizzly Peanut Butter Cheesecake was the crowd and judge favorite, and for good reason!
Another impressive feature of the night was a stirring testimony from Miss Kansas 2012, Sloane Lewis. She credited her Girl Scout experience early in life for giving her confidence and a safe place to learn and grow when she didn’t feel like she quite fit in anywhere else. From silent and live auction items, to delicious desserts and hors d’ oeuvres, Cocktails & Cookies was a great success, and generated not only more than $75,000, but gave adults young and old a way to learn about the mission and program opportunities of Girl Scouts, and that’s the sweetest thing of all!
